ROME, GA (August 17, 2023) – Urgent Team Walk-in Urgent Care is pleased to welcome Jon Risley, MD, to its healthcare team in Rome.
In addition to walk-in urgent care, Urgent Team is excited to offer the full spectrum of primary care. Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Risley has extensive experience in the urgent care sector, as well as family medicine.
“We are excited to have Dr. Risley join our team full-time,” said Ellis Harris, Urgent Team Division Vice President. “His vast experience diagnosing and treating patients will be a tremendous asset to our team in Rome.”
Risley graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University and completed his medical education at Wake Forest University. After residency at the University of Virginia, he practiced in a physician-short area in rural Georgia. He and his family then moved to Chad Africa where he served as a medical missionary and was the director of the Tibesti Medical Project for five years before a civil war in the area forced his family back to the U.S.
Since then, Risley has practiced general family and internal medicine through private practices, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, and through the United States Navy’s Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.
He was commissioned in the U.S. Navy in 2003 and continues to serve as a Capt. in the Navy Reserve. Throughout his naval career, he received numerous medals for his achievements, and has served as a faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine, medical executive positions at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville and Camp Pendleton, Deputy Force Surgeon Fleet Forces Command Jacksonville, and most recently as the Force Surgeon for U. S. Naval Forces Korea.
Dr. Risley is an avid mountain biker, former marathon runner, and sports enthusiast. He’s been married for 33 years to his wife, Sarah, and has 14 children: five biological and nine adopted children.
