Urgent Team Recognizes May as National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month

(May 4, 2015) According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, approximately 50 million Americans suffer from some form of allergies. An allergy is a heightened sensitivity to a foreign substance (called an allergen) that causes the body’s defense system (the immune system) to overact when defending itself. Allergies can generally be controlled with proper prevention and treatment.

With the onset of spring, allergy season is in full bloom. May is recognized as National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. “Allergy is a leading chronic disease in the United States and symptoms vary greatly in severity and type. They can include running, stuffed or itchy nose, swollen and burning eyes to difficulty breathing to name a few,” says Chad Sherwood, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Urgent Team. “Many people of all ages suffer from allergies.”

Treatment is determined on an individual basis as prescribed by your physician. Urgent Team can provide allergy testing at select locations. Click HERE for more information about allergies. If you have any questions, please contact your local Urgent Team Center and get more information.
