Urgent Team Celebrates Milestone of 50 Centers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 25, 2019) – The Urgent Team Family of Urgent Care & Walk-in Centers today reached a milestone of 50 locations. Since opening its doors in late 2011, Urgent Team has been on an aggressive growth plan to expand in the Southeast and be a leader in the transformative process of the consumer movement of healthcare.

The company’s footprint currently touches four states (Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas – and soon Georgia) and encompasses four brands: Urgent Team, Sherwood Urgent Care, Physicians Care, and Baptist Health Urgent Care, which is a joint venture with Baptist Health in Arkansas.

Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, Tom Dent, the company has become one of the largest independent operators of urgent and family care centers in the Southeast.  Dent is a seasoned leader having developed and managed numerous health ventures to improve the integration of the healthcare service continuum during his career. He has earned an industry reputation for building quality teams and companies with a focus on outcomes and service value and understanding the needs of patients in a complex and changing medical environment.

Urgent Team was founded on the value proposition of providing on-demand healthcare available at night and on weekends; a less expensive alternative to an Emergency Room visit; and more convenient and timely access than a primary care physician’s office that typically requires an advanced appointment.

“Driving the growth of our industry are increasingly empowered healthcare consumers, a growing shortage of primary care physicians, and the shifting cost to individuals and families,” Dent said. “These convergences require consumers to seek new ways to receive lower cost and higher value care in more convenient settings near where they work and play.”

The Urgent Care industry has grown exponentially, with the number of Urgent Care centers ballooning from 6,946 in 2015 to 8,285 as of June 2018, according to the Urgent Care Association (UCA). Urgent Care is an $18 billion industry on track to exceed the 5.8 percent growth projection provided by UCA for 2018.  Additionally, the UCA states that up to 27 percent of all emergency department visits could take place at an urgent care center, thus saving the patient time and money.

“Our model is to build or acquire centers in underserved markets and seek joint venture opportunities with healthcare systems,” Dent shared. Growth strategies are in place to bring the company to 65 centers by the end of this year and 85 centers at the closing of 2020.

According to Dent, the company could not have reached this milestone, nor continue its accelerated growth, without the commitment of its more than 620 team members, a trusted leadership team, and its supportive private equity sponsors that include Crestline Investors, SV Health Investors, Petra Capital Partners River Cities Capital Funds.

“Our long-term success is incumbent on providing an exceptional patient experience – every patient, every time,” Dent emphasized. “We are a vision and values-driven company and this brings a drive and commitment to build a company with operational integrity and a commitment to excellence. The Urgent Care industry is at the epicenter of where retail and traditional healthcare meets; Urgent Team’s goal is to be a leader in this transformative process of the consumer movement in healthcare.”
