Big News for Parents: TennCare Expands Diaper Benefit

Got a little one in diapers? Here’s some news that’ll brighten your week:

Since August 2024, TennCare and CoverKids members with children under age 2 are eligible to receive up to 100 free diapers every month. Now the program has expanded to make it even easier to get the brands and sizes you need.

What you need to know:

  • More diaper options. At first, the program covered big-name brands like Huggies, Cuties, Pampers, and Luvs. Now, as of February 28, 2025, pharmacies can give you any brand they carry—even if it’s not on the “official” Covered UPC list—by using a Generic Diaper UPC. Translation: more choices for you.
  • Better coverage across Tennessee. The number of participating pharmacies has expanded to 403 locations in 90 counties. Use the interactive map on TennCare’s website to find one near you.
  • Easier for pharmacies to participate. Any pharmacy in the TennCare Pharmacy Network can join in, so you might start seeing more locations offering the benefit.
  • Behind-the-scenes improvements. TennCare is now reimbursing pharmacies based on both the brand and size of diapers dispensed, and there’s even been a tweak to Davidson County’s tax reimbursement to keep up with local changes.

How it works:

There’s no prescription needed—just bring your child’s or guardian’s pharmacy card or Social Security Number to confirm eligibility. Diapers are picked up right at the pharmacy counter. Since stock can run out, it’s smart to call ahead to make sure they have your preferred brand and size.
