Symptoms of tick-borne illnesses

Often tick-borne diseases can have similar signs and symptoms, resulting in mild symptoms treatable at home – to severe infections requiring hospitalization. Visit one of our urgent care centers immediately if you have been bitten by a tick and experience any of these most common symptoms. Early recognition and treatment of an infection decreases the risk of serious complications.

  • Pain, swelling, blisters and a burning sensation at the bite site
  • Fever, chills, nausea and swollen lymph nodes: With all tick-borne diseases, patients can experience fever at varying degrees and time of onset.
  • Aches and pains: Tick-borne disease symptoms include headache, fatigue, neck stiffness, weakness and muscle or joint aches. The severity and time of onset of symptoms can depend on the disease and the patient’s personal tolerance level.
  • Difficulty breathing may be present, if severe.
  • Rash: If you see a flat rash in the shape of an oval or bull’s-eye anywhere on your body, it could be Lyme disease. See a medical professional immediately.
